Working as the sole Product Designer on the team, I was tasked with designing the look and user experience of our mobile app from scratch. I worked closely with the CEO to create user stories and user flows for every user type, create a design system and branding materials, and design full-scale prototypes in Figma for the development team.
To create a product that could disrupt the liquor market, we aimed to deliver value to all three key players in the bar experience: customers, bar owners, and liquor marketers.
Through interviews with stakeholders and our relationships in the market, we conceptualized an app that improves the experience of the business, the reach of the marketer, and delivers unique features, rewards, and discounts to empower customers.
The liquor market today can be stale and antiquated. Marketers for liquor companies will still go in-person to bars and vendors, pitching their products, while bars are left without other options for finding new products to sell. On the other end, customers who want to go out with their friends without breaking the bank have to search endlessly to compare prices across bars near them.
With Crow Club, customers can find events and participating bars near them, taking advantage of discounts on drinks from specific brands. This is made possible through liquor marketers’ campaigns, discounting a certain number of drinks the bar owners sell in order to advertise their products. This provides advertising to liquor brands, discounts to customers, and business for bars.
In creating our design system, I knew I wanted the app to feel modern, stylish, and fun. I used a base-purple color system with a Purple-Black dark mode and light purple accent colors, followed by bright colors to accent things like profile icons and buttons. In choosing my font, I chose Nunito Sans as it felt both modern and fun while staying readable for mobile devices.
Through wireframing, I determined the layout and functionality of the app from the perspective of customers, bar owners, waiters, and liquor marketers. For example, I designed the entire flow for customers finding a bar/event near them, purchasing a discounted drink in-app, interfacing with the waiter or bartender, and receiving their drink from the bar.
The app is currently in development. Updates, like user testing sessions, will be coming soon! :)
Crow Club has a unique idea that will shake up an antiquated market and benefit customers, bar owners, and liquor marketers simultaneously. As the app develops, I believe we will see this idea take off.
The addition of features to find events and meet new people expands on the initial app idea, providing even more benefits to customers; now Crow Club isn’t just a way to save money going out, it can help people find their next event and meet new people. Going forward, this idea can also be expanded to other markets, and I’m excited to see where this goes.
